A Touch of the Great Equation is a project by Alban Karsten and V&B (artist duo Alex Jacobs and Ellemieke Schoenmaker), in which sculptural works are (re)presented inside complex and seemingly confusing graphs and charts. Sculptures and graphs turn out to have an unexpectedly close relationship, as both fundamentally revolve around creating meaning through connections, structures, and patterns. They also share a conceptual space, where form and function merge to communicate something deeper, something that was previously hidden.
V&B and Alban came up with the graph as a framework and exhibition format following Alban’s 2023 performance The Last Expert — in which he tried to sell hard-to-believe topics to the audience with the help of self-designed graphs and charts.
